10-Day Iceland Ring Road Tour with Westfjords: Route & Price
The 10-Day Grand Iceland Ring Road tour by Nicetravel is the most complete scheduled small-group tour of Iceland we have found with a published day-by-day plan. It follows the Ring Road around the whole country, then adds the Westfjords, the Silver Circle in West Iceland and the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The route day by day
The plan below is the standard version (Option A). If you start on a Thursday (Option B), the last five days run in reverse: Silver Circle on Day 6, Snæfellsnes on Day 7 and the Westfjords on Days 8 to 10. You see the same places, just in a different order.
Day 1: Golden Circle and Kerið
Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir area at Haukadalur with the Strokkur geyser, the Gullfoss waterfall and the red-and-green Kerið crater. Overnight in Hveragerði, a geothermal town with greenhouse restaurants. The operator says hot tubs are at or next to the hotel and entry is included, so pack swimwear from day one.
Day 2: South Coast
A morning stop at the Hveragerði geothermal park with a taste of bread baked in the hot ground, then the classic South Coast: Seljalandsfoss and the half-hidden Gljúfrabúi, Skógafoss, Dyrhólaey, the black beach at Reynisfjara and the village of Vík. In the afternoon you continue to Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon and end at Svínafellsjökull, a glacier tongue of Vatnajökull. Overnight in a country hotel in Suðursveit, a few kilometres from the glacier lagoon.
Day 3: Glacier lagoon and the East Fjords
Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach in the morning, then Vestrahorn mountain, Hvalnes lighthouse and the fishing village of Djúpivogur. Overnight in Egilsstaðir. The optional amphibious boat on the lagoon (May to October) and Vök Baths are extra.
Day 4: The North East and Mývatn
Stuðlagil canyon with its basalt columns, Dettifoss, often described as Europe's most powerful waterfall, and nearby Selfoss. Around Lake Mývatn you stop at the Hverir mud pots, the Grjótagjá cave and the lava formations of Dimmuborgir, then Goðafoss. Overnight in Akureyri. The Forest Lagoon spa is an optional add-on.
Day 5: Tröllaskagi and the long road west
A free morning in Akureyri, with the option of a whale watching trip, then the Tröllaskagi peninsula, lunch in Siglufjörður, the black wooden houses and basalt coast of Hofsós and the Kolugljúfur canyon. Overnight in Borgarnes. This is one of the longest days of the trip.
Day 6: Into the Westfjords
The Eiríksstaðir Viking longhouse museum (entry included), views over Breiðafjörður, the Garðar shipwreck and the towering Látrabjarg bird cliffs, home to puffins roughly from May to August. Overnight in a country hotel at Breiðavík bay.
Day 7: Rauðisandur and Dynjandi
Gravel roads to the red and golden sands of Rauðisandur, then Dynjandi, a broad stepped waterfall, a photo stop at Önundarfjörður and the Bolafjall viewing platform high above the sea. Overnight in Ísafjörður, the main town of the Westfjords.
Day 8: The Seven Fjords Road
Ósvör fishing museum and Óshólaviti lighthouse near Bolungarvík, then the long drive along the fjords with a stop at the Arctic Fox Center (entry included), Gervidalsá falls and the Grábrók craters. Overnight in Borgarnes.
Day 9: Silver Circle
Glanni waterfall, Deildartunguhver hot spring, the Sturlureykir horse farm (entry included), Reykholt with Snorri's pool, the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Húsafell, and a guided walk through Víðgelmir, Iceland's largest lava tube. Overnight in Borgarnes again.
Day 10: Snæfellsnes
Búðakirkja black church, the sea arch at Arnarstapi, the Lóndrangar rock pillars, Djúpalónssandur beach with its old lifting stones, Ingjaldshólskirkja and finally Kirkjufell mountain. Return to Reykjavík, with arrival estimated around 19:00 to 20:00.

Who this tour suits
- First-time visitors who want to see the whole country, not only the South
- Solo travellers and couples who prefer not to drive in Iceland
- Travellers who want the Westfjords but find the roads there daunting
- People who like a full programme and don't mind early starts
The honest downsides
- Long days. The operator's own average is 200 to 300 km and four to five hours of driving a day. Days 5 and 8 feel longer.
- Short stops. Expect 30 to 60 minutes at most sights. Hikers will want more time.
- 19 seats. Small for a coach tour, but you are still part of a group with a shared pace.
- Price. At roughly €3,050 per adult before meals and extras, this is a serious budget item, especially for solo travellers paying the single supplement.
- Weather. The guide can reorder stops, and storm warnings or closed roads can cancel parts of a day. Látrabjarg in fog is still just fog.
10 days or 8?
The 8-day Ring Road and Westfjords tour covers Days 1 to 8 almost identically but drives straight from Ísafjörður back to Reykjavík on the last day. For ISK 60,000 more (roughly €400), the 10-day version adds the Silver Circle, the lava cave and Snæfellsnes, and swaps that very long final day for a night in Borgarnes. Per day it is actually the cheaper of the two. If you can spare the time, we think the extra two days are good value.
